Types of customized denim and the technologies which help it to create a worn look. Part III

Speaking about post-processing denim technologies we have already mentioned scouring with enzymes, washing with pumice stones and bleaching techniques which help to design custom jeans with a worn look. However, there are certain essential additional operations which denim undergoes on the finishing stage of subculture jeans manufacture.

First of all, denim is carefully washed to get rid of chloride rests which, as you probably remember, can stay on denim and cause a yellowish shade of jeans. Then chloride is neutralized with hydrogen peroxide, sodium carbonate or sodium metabisulphite. This procedure is very important in order to get rid of chloride smell on ready made jeans. The most convenient way is to use 30% solution of hydrogen peroxide. However, one should take into account the fact that it might make denim fabric a bit lighter in color. Types of customized denim

The last but not the least operation carried out on worn custom jeans is their softening. Special surfactants are being used to achieve this aim. To create a supersoft effect denim manufacturers even use silicon softeners. Denim then becomes silky like a peach. Besides, many softeners also have an antistatic effect.

Speaking about successful promotion of jeans on the market, one should admit that all four stages of jeans manufacture – denim production, sewing, biochemical and abrasive treatment as well as merchandizing are of vital importance. However, denim post-procession is probably the most essential part because it determines the looks of ready-made jeans and their price also is highly influenced by it.

By the way, speaking about the price – it becomes higher and higher, because environmental requirements are also becoming more sophisticated and strict every year.

Customized denim market today offers a wide variety of jeans models meeting all possible requirements. Probably the most attractive models today come with elastane additives and artificial fibers called liocell. The latter are being manufactured in the USA since 1993 under Tencel trademark. Liocell substance is extracted from wood cellulose with the help of organic dissolvent. Addition of liocell fibers to denim makes it softer and more lasting.

As to elastane, it appeared about 40 years ago and made a revolution in sewing industry. Denim with addition of elastane is also called stretch. Elastane or Lycra makes denim softer and more figure-fitting, accentuating its advantages and disadvantages and creating a sexy look.
