Typical jeans problems and the ways to solve them

Today we are going to discuss the most common custom jeans problems and simple techniques that help to solve them. Let us give our favorite jeans a new lease of life!

The first common problem concerns the length of jeans. In many cases they turn out to be too long. How can you adjust them to your height? Here are some problem solutions. You can start wearing shoes with high heels. However, not everybody prefers to wear them. You can try to wash your jeans in hope they could shrink a little bit. Or you can just turn over the bottom parts of your trouser legs. Another variant is to sew the bottom of your customized jeans down from the inside and afterwards carefully iron the trouser legs. Or you can do the same adding special bastings in order to make the flexion more secure and stable. jeans problems and the ways to solve them
Here is another solution of the problem: turn over the ends of trouser legs inside, iron your jeans and after it cut and finish the edges using one of the following methods – loop stitch; zigzag stitch of your sewing machine; general straight stitch. To make the last one you need to turn over the edges of the seam towards your jeans onto 10-12 millimeters and tack them using back-and-fore stitch without sewing down to jeans. After it stitch the tacking with an interval of 2 millimeters from the edge.

Probably the fastest and easiest way is to cut off excessive fabric with scissors and leave the edges unfinished to fray taking out several wefts from the fabric. However, frayed edges of trouser legs should correspond with the general style of your made to measure jeans.

Be sure not to throw away the cut off parts of fabric, you might need them sometime.

Another jeans problem we are going to take a closer look at is a torn seam. This happens when you’ve been wearing too long jeans for some time. Don’t give way to despair! There are several solutions to this problem as well. You can just level the edges with scissors, however, in this case you’ll have to get used to the new length of your jeans. If you want to save the length, it is also possible. Take pieces of denim and sew them down to jeans edges using a skiving seam. Iron the seams through wet cloth. After it measure the length of your trouser legs once again adding some fabric for the finishing of the edges. design jeans problems - solve howto
You can turn the fabric over in order to hide the skiving seam under hemstitch. This technique could save the situation if you don’t have an opportunity of using machine zigzag stitch to finish the edges.

You have to deal with the third problem in case you managed to catch on a nail and your custom tailored jeans are now decorated with a hole. There are several types of holes regardless their placement and size. It can be a round or square hole with a missing fabric piece or an angle hole with fabric on it. You can choose the thread of the corresponding color and carefully sew the hole up. Or in case you have some pieces of denim fabric, you can make use of them now. Make a patch in any form you like or create a print out of it. Or make both. You can also use fabric of different colors; this will help you to design your jeans in an original way. Decorate the hole using lacing, beads, rhinestones, coins and palettes – there is a wide choice of such materials in every hobby shop! Or you can also buy ready-made termo-prints, iron them and hide the hole on your jeans forever. Put several more prints in other places and everybody will think you bought yourself a pair of new expensive designer jeans! The most important part is to use the sense of harmony and proportion. The above mentioned techniques can be used just for decorative purposes in order to personalize jeans and make them unique.

Problem number four concerns holes as well. If your jeans are used and worn to holes, just add some lateral holes and fray their edges. Sexy jeans with cuts are always fashionable!

In case your jeans are not that worn but you don’t want to wear them any longer, you can transform them in something useful. For example, you can make a bag. Use the upper part of your jeans, make a square or oval bottom and sew it down to the edges of the upper part. After this make a long sling and sew it down to your bag sideways so you can wear your bag on a shoulder. Sew in a zipper in the belt part. That’s it! Give way to your imagination and start creating!
