Are expensive jeans really better?

The range of custom jeans prices is just astonishing – the cheapest models cost less than 20 dollars, designer jeans can cost up to 300 dollars and more. Which models looks better is the question of taste. But let us see whether the price difference is revealed in the quality of jeans and presence of dangerous substances as well.

Today jeans are won in all possible situations – at a cocktail party, during leisure or even in the office. Most people have several models of customized jeans in their closets. Those who are not after fashionable designer brands feel themselves comfortable wearing jeans manufactured by nameless labels. However, the question is whether the quality of denim in such cheap models is corresponding and whether wearing them could be dangerous for our health because of the presence of certain substances. Are expensive jeans really better

Special research carried out in Germany concentrated upon 18 jeans models – from the cheapest ones to luxurious designer variants. All pants were studied in laboratories to check the presence of damaging substances in the fabric. Besides, the qualities of customized denim itself were studied.

The results show “very well” mark acquired by four of all personalized jeans models, “good” mark eleven jeans pairs received and “sufficient” mark three of all studied jeans have got. “Good enough” and “bad” marks were not used at all. No jeans pair of all listed contained any dangerous cancer provoking substances or any heavy metal particles that could be a source of allergic reactions.

However, three of all made to measure jeans models contained halogen organic substances which could lead to allergic reactions as well – “G-Star Raw Midge Straight” for 130 dollars, “Hess Natur Jeans” for 100 dollars and “C&A Jessica Short Bio Cotton”, the cheapest jeans model in test. Besides. Two latter models also contained optical bleachers dangerous for the environment, despite the bio label on them. The first of all three jeans models received the “good” mark, while two others were marked with “sufficient”.

Many custom tailored jeans models, both cheap and expensive ones, were criticized for instable color. Those who sweat much thus run the risk of ruining their white underwear, otherwise it could get light blue color because of instable indigo dye. Besides, researchers recommend not to wash jeans together with light-colored clothes items and not to sit on light-colored leather sofas wearing them. This could lead to blue stains as well.

To sum it up, those who want to save their money make the right choice buying cheap jeans. For instance, jeans by H&M for 40 dollars were marked “good” exactly as expensive jeans models by Diesel or Replay. And even the cheapest jeans model in test received a “sufficient” mark.
