Jeans: more than just apparel
Blue Jeans, once considered a redneck fashion hit the runaways in late twentieth century.
This drastic change of public attitude towards denim happened in more than one day, but certainly less than in a
decade. The former uniform of cowboys and miners became first a rebellious and then a fashion statement. One can
argue that these past century jeans are truly custom, but we can say that if "custom" means not mass produced and
mass designed apparel, jeans have definitely a custom soul.
Since their early days jeans were modified by their owners to improve their functionality
and... originality (or personal content).
Even if it seems that there's a huge difference between rolling up of trousers and their radical redesigning, possibly going
as far as creating denim
Frankensteins by sewing together different pairs, actually there's no. Jeans
differ from any other apparel because they are more that something one can wear,
it's a true artistic media, i.e. something one can create with.

And as with any true media there are unlimited uses of it. To summarize, not all jeans are born custom,
but all of them can become ones. You just have to imagine.
Next post will be dedicated to the place of jeans in youth cultures around the world. Don't miss it!
